In the power plant, TDZ-1E-31 displacement sensor (LVDT) is a key component of the digital electro-hydraulic control system (DEH) of the steam turbine, which is responsible for accurately measuring the stroke of the hydraulic servo-motor, so as to ensure the high efficiency and stable operation of the steam turbine.
In the DEH system of the steam turbine, the governor valve needs to be adjusted frequently according to the load and speed change, which causes the matched LVDT sensor TDZ-1E-31 also needs to be moved frequently. The use of this high frequency can cause a variety of failures, including:
- Mechanical Abrasion: Frequent movement may cause mechanical wear between the magnetic core and the coil inside the LVDT, thereby reducing the accuracy of the sensor or completely disabling it.
- Electrical fault: frequent change of electromagnetic field may cause coil short circuit, insulation aging or loose electrical connection, affecting electrical performance of sensor.
- Environmental factors: severe environmental conditions such as high temperature, high humidity, corrosive gas or dust may accelerate the damage of the sensor.
- Overload: If the travel of the sensor exceeds its design range, it may cause damage to mechanical parts or electrical performance degradation.
- Vibration and Shock: The vibration and shock generated during the operation of the steam turbine may cause the internal parts of the LVDT to be displaced or damaged.
In practice, an servo-motor is usually equipped with two LVDT sensors TDZ-1E-31 for travel monitoring. When one of the sensors is damaged, the other sensor can continue to work as a backup to ensure the normal operation of the governor valve. However, if two sensors are damaged at the same time, they must be replaced online immediately to avoid affecting the normal operation of the turbine. On-line replacement requires operators with quick response ability and in-depth understanding of the system to ensure that the replacement process will not lead to excessive equipment downtime or safety accidents.
There are different types of sensors used for different steam turbine units. Check if it has the sensor you need, or contact us for more details.
