The lock nut Coml of the generator sealing oil vacuum pump can be regarded as a small detail with a big effect in the power plant. Replacing or maintaining it is a technical job, and you have to pay attention to the order and steps, otherwise it is easy to over-tighten or over-loosen, causing leakage. Let’s talk about this today.
Let’s talk about preparation first. You need a socket wrench, torque wrench, sealant, cleaner, gloves and protective glasses. The socket wrench is used to remove and install the nut, the torque wrench ensures the tightening torque is accurate, the sealant and cleaner ensure the interface is clean and sealed, and the gloves and glasses are safety protection.
Before starting, turn off the relevant equipment to ensure safety. Then, loosen the Coml lock nut with a socket wrench, and be careful not to use too much force to avoid damaging the thread. The removed nuts and gaskets must be carefully checked to see if there is any wear or damage to decide whether to replace them.
After removing the old nuts, clean the interface. Scrub the contact surface between the pump housing and the lock nut with a cleaner to ensure that there is no oil, dust or residue. This step is very important, and a clean contact surface is the key to sealing.
Apply an appropriate amount of sealant on the new gasket or interface, evenly, not too much, otherwise the excess will squeeze out and affect the seal. Too little will reduce the sealing effect. This job needs to be done carefully and evenly to ensure that the sealant can fill all the gaps.
Next, install the new nut. First, gently screw it on by hand and align the threads. Don’t rush to use force. After you feel the alignment, tighten it slowly with a socket wrench. Pay attention to the feeling during the process and don’t twist it crooked. Finally, use a torque wrench to tighten it according to the torque recommended by the manufacturer to ensure that it is neither too tight nor too loose.
After installation, check the sealing. You can add a small amount of oil first to observe whether there is leakage. If there is, you have to disassemble it again and check the gasket and nut to see if it is not installed properly or the sealant is not applied properly. Repeat several times until the seal is correct.
During the whole process, you have to be careful and don’t be impatient. Thread damage, gasket damage, too much or too little sealant will affect the sealing effect. You also have to pay attention to personal protection, wear gloves and glasses, and avoid oil and dust from hurting your skin and eyes.
